They were originally for the DAK but were issued to Waffen SS and Heer units late in the war as well. (Perhaps "webbing" 'y' straps would have been more accurate!).
I'm sure I read somewhere that the canvas Y straps and belt were often used by snipers as they were non light-reflective and quieter
Quite right mate. I've got them because they don't need breaking in and are more comfortable than leather ones.
On a bit of a spending spree this week! Just ordered a WE luger, a P90 tappet plate and an M16 length barrel from Cobra.
Nice! I've been contemplating getting a WE Luger, you will have to let us know if they are any good as a skirmishable sidearm.
My only purchase this week; a repro Hanhart FliegerChrono watch strap
Sadly, only the strap to go on my exisiting watch ATM, I don't have the spare £1,600 for the watch at this time
Although Poljot do a pretty good Hanhart replica for around £200, Hmmm, how to convince the wife I need ANOTHER new watch??

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942
"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."
Joseph Stalin, November 1942

"Major Bernard Himmler, does the name mean anything to you?"
depends on make and age, mines a shuttle
After a bit of research:
1: Yes, it is a shuttle.
2: It's German (it was my Grandmothers)
3: It's a Hengstenburg - dating from 1900-1910 (so my grandmother probably inherited it from her mother - she was the only daughter). Weird to think that my great-grandfather might have been awarded his Iron Cross whilst wearing some clothing that had been under the needle of this machine!
Now I get to sew insignia on a machine thats seen two world wars!
